At the Montreal Elite16 tournament, Canadian beach volleyball pair Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson clinched the bronze medal on home ground.
The 2024 Olympic silver medalists staged a comeback to defeat Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann, securing their spot on the podium with scores of 20-22, 21-12, and 18-16.
Wilkerson dominated the game with 32 attack points, 5 block points, and a pivotal serve point, while Humana-Paredes contributed 9 attack points.
The match faced a temporary halt due to adverse weather conditions but resumed afterward.
Earlier in the day, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson suffered a defeat in the semifinals against Brazil’s Thamela Galil and Victoria Tosta with a scoreline of 21-19, 20-22, and 15-7.
Although their bid for a three-peat fell short, the Canadian duo faced off against Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann, ultimately claiming the bronze medal.
In previous years, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson had triumphed in the Montreal tournaments of 2023 and 2025, with an Olympic silver from the Paris Games sandwiched in between.
Canadian Men Secure Bronze
In the men’s bronze-medal match on Sunday, Canada’s Sam Schachter and Jonathan Pickett staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Norway’s Hendrik Mol and Mathias Berntsen.
The Ontario pair lost the first set at 16-21 but rallied to win the next two sets at 28-26 and 15-12, securing their first podium finish together on home soil.
Schachter and Pickett caused an upset by defeating the world No. 1 team of Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson to advance to the men’s semifinals at the FIVB Beach Pro Tour event on Saturday.
However, the 39th-ranked Canadian team faced disappointment in the semifinals on Sunday morning, falling 2-1 (21-12, 16-21, 16-14) to Brazil’s Renato Andrew Lima de Carvalho and André Loyola Stein.
