Four individuals, including two teenagers and an infant, were saved from a swiftly spreading house fire by an off-duty RCMP officer who sprang into action and assisted a frantic man in extracting his family through a basement window.
Constable Anton Lorde, returning home from his duty on July 18, noticed a dense cloud of smoke in the air, leading him to Mount Pleasant Street in Sydney, N.S. Upon arrival, he found a house engulfed in flames, emanating from the front, sides, and roof. Initially assuming the house was unoccupied due to the presence of several onlookers, Lorde swiftly cleared the street for fire trucks.
However, upon inquiring about the occupants from a neighbor, he learned that multiple individuals, including children, resided there. Prompted by this revelation, Lorde proceeded to the backyard, where he began tapping on windows of the burning structure, ensuring no one was trapped inside. Subsequently, a startled boy peered back at him through the blinds.
As Lorde frantically urged the occupants to evacuate, the father of the children emerged, and with combined efforts, they managed to rescue the trapped individuals, including a four-month-old infant. The father’s swift actions were crucial in the rescue operation, underscoring the collaborative effort that led to saving lives.
