“Alberta Separatist Leader Resigns Over Racial Slur”

Must Read

A member of the prominent Alberta Prosperity Project, known for advocating separation, has stepped down following the use of a racial slur during an event where a draft constitution for an independent Alberta was presented. The event, organized by the “Stay Free Alberta” citizen initiative petition, involved the Black Hat Gang from Medicine Hat, who assisted in creating the constitution called the “Foundation of Freedom.”

Ian Parkinson, one of the Black Hat Gang members and a co-writer of the draft constitution, made the offensive remark during the presentation in Airdrie. His derogatory comment, targeting Sikh, Muslim, or Arab individuals, received applause from some audience members. Subsequently, Mitch Sylvestre, the Alberta Prosperity Project leader, accepted Parkinson’s resignation and stated that Parkinson would no longer be involved in the group’s activities or events.

The incident drew criticism from various quarters, including separatist leaders like Keith Wilson, who disavowed Parkinson’s comments, emphasizing that they do not represent the values of those supporting independence. The draft constitution, labeled as ‘Foundation of Freedom,’ has faced backlash for its proposals, such as the creation of an oversight branch of government, elimination of property taxes, and the election of judges in an independent Alberta.

Despite the presentation of the draft constitution, there is a lack of consensus among separatists, with some key figures distancing themselves from the document, citing flaws and lack of readiness. The draft constitution is viewed as a starting point for discussions on a potential future Alberta constitution, subject to further debate and refinement. The ongoing friction within the separatist movement signals a lack of unity as Alberta’s referendum approaches on October 19.
