The cancellation of events like the Triathlon National Championships and the Fat Dog 120 trail race has left a significant impact on athletes, volunteers, and the broader community.
Despite the challenges posed by the wildfires and smoke, tourists are still visiting Kelowna. However, there is a sense of caution among tourists, with some choosing to delay their trips due to air quality concerns. Tourism Kelowna is working to promote indoor activities like wine tasting and shopping to mitigate the effects of the unstable conditions caused by the wildfires.
While some events have been canceled, such as a concert series in Vernon and a swim in Penticton, the Kamloops Rib Festival is proceeding as planned. The festival’s chefs are embracing the smoky atmosphere and plan to add appetizing barbecue smoke to enhance the experience for attendees. However, the dragon boat races scheduled alongside the festival have been called off due to health risks.
