A man and a woman, aged 37 and 33, allegedly engaged in sexual activity while driving at a speed of 90mph, causing a potential accident on a German autobahn. The couple’s erratic driving on the A1 motorway was reported by a witness who observed the male driver and female passenger in the act. Subsequently, the couple was apprehended at a petrol station near Münster, and the man now faces charges for endangering road safety.
Reports from local media revealed that the couple’s vehicle, traveling towards Dortmund, swerved so forcefully to the right at one point that it forced a truck onto the roadside. While Germany’s Autobahn is renowned for its stretches without speed limits, approximately 30% of the network is subject to speed restrictions, with an additional 9% using traffic management systems for operational efficiency. Some areas impose strict limits, particularly in high-traffic or high-risk zones.
In a separate incident in July, a driver was caught speeding at an astonishing 200mph on the Autobahn, exceeding the speed limit by more than 124mph. The driver, unidentified in public records, was apprehended during a routine inspection on the A2 highway near Burg, west of Berlin. Following the violation, authorities in Magdeburg imposed a €900 (£784) fine, a three-month driving suspension, and deducted two points from the driver’s license.
