“Councilwoman Assaulted by Flag Erectors in Seaford”

Two men allegedly pushed a councilwoman to the ground while erecting flags in a coastal town in England.

The incident occurred on the A259 in Seaford, Sussex, as the councilwoman, in her 40s, approached the men during the flag installation. According to The Argus, a verbal dispute ensued, leading to the councilwoman being forcibly pushed to the ground.

Sussex Police launched an investigation following reports of the assault that took place around 9 pm on Monday. One suspect, a 29-year-old man from Peacehaven, was apprehended on suspicion of assault and subsequently released on bail. Authorities are actively seeking the second individual involved.

Lewes District Council confirmed the victim as a current council member. A council representative stated, “While acknowledging the councilwoman’s involvement, we defer to law enforcement for further details.”

In a statement, Sussex Police declared, “An investigation is ongoing regarding the assault of a woman in Seaford on Monday, October 13, where she was allegedly pushed to the ground by two men on Sutton Park Road.”

“A 29-year-old male from Peacehaven was taken into custody for suspected assault and has been granted bail. Efforts are underway to locate the second suspect,” the statement continued.

Authorities are urging any witnesses to come forward with any footage, such as CCTV, dashcam, or mobile recordings of the incident. Information can be shared with the police online or by calling 101, referencing serial 1350 of 13/10.
