“Maximize Oven Heat: Keep Home Cozy Efficiently”

Must Read

During the cold winter months, a British Gas energy specialist has shared a clever tip to keep your home cozy without relying solely on your central heating system. According to energy engineer Jessica Rawstron, you can maximize the residual heat from your oven by leaving its door open after cooking.

Rawstron suggests that instead of immediately closing the oven door after preparing a meal, allow the warmth to slowly spread throughout your kitchen, contributing to a warmer household ambiance while you enjoy your food. She advises caution, reminding homeowners to ensure that children and pets are kept away from the open oven door.

In addition to this practical advice, British Gas recommends various winter home preparation measures, such as sealing gaps around windows and doors to prevent draughts. It is also essential to regularly bleed your radiators and schedule annual boiler servicing to ensure efficient heating in your home.

As parts of the UK face yellow warnings for snow and ice due to plummeting temperatures, households are expected to increase their heating usage, especially as energy bills continue to rise. The current average annual cost for gas and electricity for households on direct debit payment plans has reached £1,758, as regulated by the price cap that controls unit rates and standing charges.

For those on pre-payment meters, the yearly cap has risen to £1,711, while bill payers can expect to pay around £1,894 annually. It’s important to note that the price cap is subject to quarterly updates, with the next adjustment scheduled for April 2026.
