McLaren Apologizes for Disqualification Drama

Must Read

McLaren has issued a formal apology to their drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, following their disqualification from the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Despite finishing in second and fourth place, McLaren faced scrutiny from race stewards due to potential violations regarding the minimum width of the rearmost skid on both cars.

In a statement released by McLaren’s team principal Andrea Stella, it was confirmed that the team had breached Article 3.5.9 of the Technical Regulations, which mandates a minimum skid thickness of 9mm. Car 4 exceeded this requirement by a maximum of 0.12mm, while Car 81 surpassed it by 0.26mm.

The team attributed the breach to unexpected high levels of porpoising during the race, leading to increased ground contact. McLaren is currently investigating the root cause of this issue, including accidental damage sustained by the cars that resulted in heightened floor movement.

Acknowledging that the breach was unintentional and without any deliberate intent to violate regulations, McLaren expressed regret for the loss of points incurred by Norris and Piastri, particularly given their strong performances throughout the weekend. The team also extended apologies to their partners and fans for the setback.

Despite the disappointing outcome, McLaren remains fully focused on the remaining two races of the season. The disqualification has injected new excitement into the Drivers’ World Championship, with Norris maintaining his lead with 390 points, closely followed by Piastri. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen’s victory at the Las Vegas Grand Prix has put him on par with Piastri, creating a thrilling title race scenario.

Both Norris and Piastri expressed their disappointment over the disqualification, setting the stage for a tense finale in Qatar and Abu Dhabi. As the championship battle intensifies, all eyes are on the competitors to see who will emerge victorious. Verstappen emphasized the need for luck and strong performances in the upcoming races to challenge the current leaders.

Looking ahead to the season’s climax, fans can anticipate a gripping showdown between the top contenders, with the Qatar and Abu Dhabi races promising to deliver more twists and turns in the quest for the championship title.
