In a recent BBC interview, broadcaster Jeremy Vine suggested that Prince Andrew could face extradition to the US within the next five years following his distancing from royal duties in 2019 due to his association with Jeffrey Epstein. Vine expressed that the removal of Andrew’s last military honor, the vice admiral title, signifies a push for his further humiliation.
Vine pointed out that with Andrew losing support and being stripped of his titles, including the honorary rank of vice-admiral, it may prompt American authorities to pursue extradition proceedings. This comes in the wake of Virginia Giuffre’s allegations that she was coerced into a sexual relationship with Andrew, which he denies.
Defense Secretary John Healey confirmed the ongoing process to revoke Andrew’s vice-admiral rank, emphasizing that decisions regarding his military medals and line of succession are guided by the monarch. While Andrew remains eighth in line to the throne, calls for legislative action to remove him persist.
Healey reiterated that any decision to alter Andrew’s status within the royal family ultimately lies with the King. Despite the potential for further actions, the focus remains on the gradual removal of Andrew’s remaining military distinctions, aligning with the decisions made by the monarchy.
