In the Davis Cup final, the second singles match came to an unexpected halt when a spectator in the audience fell ill. Flavio Cobolli of Italy was trying to break Jaume Munar’s serve when he noticed the fan’s distress.
Munar had won the first set 6-1 and was leading in the second set when Cobolli had an opportunity to break back. The match was paused as medical assistance was called to the stands, and both players took a break.
Commentator Arvind Parmar commended Cobolli for his quick response, noting the swift reaction of the crowd to the situation. During the interruption, umpire Marijana Veljovic conversed with the players, and Italian captain Filippo Volandri offered advice to Cobolli.
As the fan was escorted out of the stands, Parmar mentioned a potential delay in play for the person’s safe removal. The delay lasted approximately ten minutes, after which Cobolli managed to break Munar’s serve and tie the second set at 1-1.
Italy led 1-0 going into the second singles match, following Matteo Berrettini’s victory over Pablo Carreno Busta. A win for Cobolli could secure Italy’s third consecutive tournament win, a feat not achieved since 1972.
However, a victory for Munar would force a decisive doubles round. Both Italy and their opponents are missing key players, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, who withdrew before the final began.
