iOS users with older devices often face performance issues, experiencing a gradual slowdown over time, particularly following Apple’s annual iOS updates. However, a significant change could be on the horizon in 2026.
Apple recently unveiled iOS 27 at WWDC in California, introducing enhancements such as an advanced Siri assistant, improved Apple Intelligence, enhanced photo editing tools, and new customization options for the visually appealing Liquid Glass design. Notably, Apple has promised a substantial performance boost with this update.
According to the tech giant, iOS 27 is expected to enable apps to launch up to 30% faster, significantly improving the overall user experience. Additionally, Apple guarantees that photo loading speeds will increase by up to 70% across devices, and AirDrop transfers will be up to 80% quicker.
One of the standout features of iOS 27 is the CPU scheduler, designed to enhance performance not only on the latest iPhone models like the iPhone 17 Pro Max but also on older devices such as the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12. This feature optimizes device performance by prioritizing the app currently in use, resulting in a smoother and faster user experience.
Apple is confident that the adjustments made in iOS 27 will extend the lifespan of aging devices, potentially eliminating the need to upgrade iPhones that are still in good working condition. The tech giant stated, “Improvements across platforms push key system capabilities forward so everyday tasks feel faster, smoother, and more enjoyable.”
Although the exact release date for iOS 27 has not been announced, it is anticipated to be available in September.
