Identified as Mirella, now 42, she disappeared at the age of 15 in 1998 and had not left her family’s residence since then. Recently found in deplorable conditions, Mirella was severely injured and malnourished, barely surviving when she was rescued.
Initially reported missing, Mirella’s parents claimed she had vanished, then alleged she was kidnapped, maintaining this narrative for years. However, a shocking revelation unfolded this summer when authorities uncovered the distressing truth at their residence in Świętochłowice, Poland.
Concerns arose in July when neighbors reported hearing disturbances from the apartment. Despite reassurances from the elderly landlady, the police intervened, discovering Mirella’s dire state. Observing severe injuries on her legs, they immediately sought medical assistance, recognizing the imminent threat to her life from infections.
Mirella had purportedly been confined by her parents in a cramped room within their apartment, completely cut off from the outside world. She had been deprived of basic healthcare, social interactions, and outdoor activities, living a life devoid of common experiences.
Following her rescue by the police, Mirella spent two months in the hospital fighting for her life. A criminal investigation has been initiated by Prosecutor Agnieszka Kwatera, aiming to uncover the legal implications for Mirella’s parents in this harrowing case.
