Sky Q, a highly acclaimed set-top box, is known for its exceptional features such as live TV recording, access to premium channels, on-demand content, and popular streaming apps like Disney+ and Netflix. However, Sky is shifting its focus towards internet-based products like the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV, signaling a move away from its traditional satellite-powered platform. This shift could create an opportunity for a new competitor to enter the market.
Humax has introduced the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, a device that closely resembles Sky Q in functionality. Equipped with a 2TB hard drive for storing extensive TV content, films, and sports, the Aura EZ offers a rare option for physical recordings. Additionally, it utilizes Freely technology, allowing users to stream live TV over broadband, offering more than 60 channels and a vast library of on-demand programs.
The Aura EZ boasts features like 4K HDR picture quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio, an integrated TV guide, and remote control through the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app. While it may not match Sky’s premium sports and movie offerings, Freely is a free service with no subscription fees, providing an attractive alternative.
Scheduled for a UK launch in February 2026 at a price of £249, the Humax Aura EZ arrives as Sky introduces a new subscription bundle consolidating major streaming services at a reduced monthly rate. For £24 per month, customers gain access to Disney+, Netflix, Hayu, and upcoming HBO Max, accompanied by over 130 premium channels for Ultimate TV plan subscribers, including Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, and Sky History.
Moreover, Sky Cinema customers will enjoy a new Disney movie channel integrated into the TV guide. The bundle includes Netflix Standard with Ads, Disney+ Standard with Ads (starting March), HBO Max Basic with Ads (from March 26), Hayu (from July, with select content available from March), and over 130 Sky channels.
