Trainer Aidan O’Brien shared that Ryan Moore is not expected to return to racing until next year. The renowned jockey, who is affiliated with O’Brien’s Ballydoyle stable, has been sidelined since early September due to a stress fracture of the femur. Christophe Soumillon has taken over in Moore’s absence, achieving success by clinching four Group 1 victories on Ballydoyle horses.
Soumillon is set to ride in four Group 1 races for O’Brien at Ascot’s Qipco British Champion’s Day this Saturday. Despite Moore’s recent presence at Newmarket events as a spectator, it seems likely that Soumillon will continue as the main jockey, supported by Wayne Lordan, for the remainder of this year, including the upcoming Breeders’ Cup in November.
During a media conference for Champions Day, O’Brien expressed confidence in Soumillon’s performance, noting Moore’s progress and suggesting a return to racing in the next year. Understanding the importance of allowing sufficient time for recovery, O’Brien emphasized Moore’s focus on long-term well-being over a rushed comeback.
