A depraved individual who preyed on numerous children and subjected a disabled man to horrific abuse has been denied release following an unsuccessful appeal. David John Andrews, 56, described as a despicable predator, targeted 47 victims, predominantly children, resulting in a 27-year prison sentence. Andrews, hailing from Northern Ireland, admitted to 130 counts of sexual misconduct, including posing as a 13-year-old to deceive young individuals.
Lady Chief Justice Dame Siobhan Keegan emphasized the severity of his actions, labeling them as a significant threat to vulnerable children that necessitated a strict penalty, justifying the lengthy sentence imposed. Investigations revealed that Andrews used social media platforms like Snapchat and Instagram to solicit explicit images from underage girls, employing fake identities to lure them.
His victims were scattered throughout the UK, with one instance involving indecent images being circulated to a victim’s school acquaintances. Andrews also targeted a vulnerable woman, subjecting her to direct sexual abuse over a span of seven years, during which he degraded her further by dressing her up and sharing explicit photos with others.
Among the charges he pleaded guilty to were inciting children to engage in sexual activities, distributing private images with malicious intent, harassment, blackmail, attempted rape, and engaging in sexual acts with an individual with a mental disorder. Andrews was handed a nearly 30-year prison term, with a requirement to serve at least half of it behind bars.
During his appeal, his legal team argued against the consecutive sentences for grouped offenses, contending that the court misjudged his actions. However, Dame Siobhan Keegan dismissed the appeal, highlighting the persistent nature of his abuse and manipulation of young victims as prolific and disturbing. She justified the high sentence as a reflection of society’s condemnation of such reprehensible behavior, characterized by dominance and exploitation of young girls.
