Former US President Joe Biden has revealed that he is currently undergoing a new treatment regimen for his aggressive prostate cancer. A spokesperson for the 46th President shared that he is receiving radiation therapy and hormone treatment as part of his comprehensive treatment plan, which is anticipated to span over five weeks. This marks a significant phase in Biden’s cancer treatment, with the additional radiation therapy supplementing the hormone medication he was already taking.
In May, Biden publicly disclosed his battle with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had spread to his bones. Despite the challenging circumstances, reports indicate that the President is managing well. His medical team emphasized that although the cancer is aggressive, it is hormone-sensitive, allowing for effective management strategies.
Recently, Biden underwent Mohs surgery to treat skin cancer, a meticulous procedure involving the progressive removal of cancerous skin layers until complete eradication. Notably, the former President, who is approaching 83 years old, holds the record as the oldest individual to have served as President of the United States, a position he relinquished amid health concerns.
Following his transition from office to his successor, Donald Trump, Biden has maintained a relatively low profile. He expressed gratitude to his supporters upon disclosing his cancer diagnosis in May, acknowledging the strength found in unity during challenging times.
This is not the first instance of Biden confronting cancer, as he previously had a cancerous lesion excised from his chest in February 2023. Cancer has tragically affected the Biden family beyond the President’s experience, notably with the passing of his elder son, Beau Biden, due to brain cancer in 2015.
During his tenure as Vice President, Biden initiated the “Cancer Moonshot” initiative to advance cancer research and enhance treatment accessibility. Together with his wife Jill, the Bidens actively advocate for cancer research funding, drawing from their personal experiences to support others navigating similar health struggles.
