“Former F1 Champion Jenson Button to Retire at Bahrain Race”

Must Read

Jenson Button, a renowned British sporting figure and former Formula 1 champion, is set to conclude his illustrious racing career. The 2009 title-holder retired from F1 in 2016 but has since competed in the World Endurance Championship. His final professional drive will take place at the upcoming eight-hour race in Bahrain.

Despite transitioning away from the track, Button remains a prominent figure among fans, notably for his insightful commentary on Sky Sports. His legacy includes being part of a select group of British drivers who have excelled in F1 and notably triumphed over Lewis Hamilton in head-to-head competition.

Button made his mark in Formula 1 during the early 2000s with the Renault team, which was on the brink of dominance. Despite not experiencing Renault’s peak, he later found success with Honda, achieving podium finishes and clinching his first F1 victory in 2006 after 113 Grand Prix starts.

Following a tumultuous period when Honda exited F1, Button’s fortunes changed dramatically when Ross Brawn acquired the team for a symbolic £1. This move led to Button’s fairy-tale victory with Brawn GP, where he secured the World Championship title with six wins in the initial seven races of the season.

Reflecting on his career, Button acknowledged the immense pressure he faced during his championship-winning year, describing it as one of his toughest periods. Subsequently, he joined McLaren as a World Champion in 2010, engaging in a competitive rivalry with Hamilton.

Although he narrowly missed out on the 2011 title to Sebastian Vettel, Button showcased exceptional driving skills throughout the season, highlighted by his remarkable win from last place in Canada. Noteworthy performances included victory in Japan, a race that held special significance for Button.

Over his career, Button outscored Hamilton during their time as teammates, a feat achieved by only a few drivers. Now, as he bids farewell to professional racing at the age of 45, Button prioritizes spending quality time with his young family, emphasizing the importance of being present in their lives.
