A family is shedding light on their son’s battle with stage four cancer and seeking support to fund his treatment. The 13-year-old received the devastating diagnosis after what was initially believed to be tonsillitis turned out to be a lump in his neck.
Tyler Hemming first noticed the lump in early 2024, but it wasn’t until May of the same year, when his mother Charley Hemming, 32, insisted on further tests, that scans unveiled the heartbreaking truth of Tyler’s Stage Four Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
The cancer had spread to several areas of his body, encompassing his nose, throat, neck, collarbone, armpit, heart, spleen, abdomen, and shoulder blade. The family from Gosport, Hampshire, is now striving to make Tyler’s dream of fishing in Thailand a reality once he completes his challenging cancer treatment.
Charley expressed the importance of giving Tyler something to look forward to and a goal to focus on amidst his hospital visits for chemotherapy. Despite facing setbacks like chest infections and Covid, Tyler’s resilience and determination remain unwavering.
Tyler, a devoted cheerleader at the age of 13, had competed internationally just before his diagnosis. His journey began when he noticed a neck lump in January of the previous year. Despite multiple doctor visits with inconclusive results, a visit to the hospital in May led to the devastating revelation of cancer.
Tyler’s treatment has been intense, with rounds of chemotherapy and upcoming radiotherapy. Charley, who has taken leave from work to care for her son, highlighted the financial strain on the family due to additional expenses for his care.
The family’s GoFundMe campaign aims to fulfill Tyler’s wish of visiting Thailand for a fishing trip, offering him a much-needed break from his hospital routine. Tyler’s love for fishing makes this dream particularly meaningful, providing him with hope and anticipation during his challenging journey.
