Emma Raducanu has finally spoken out following the announcement of her inclusion in the British team for the next United Cup. The young tennis sensation, who previously triumphed at the US Open, will team up with Jack Draper for the upcoming mixed-gender tournament in January.
Both Raducanu and Draper had to end their seasons prematurely, with Raducanu citing medical issues and Draper dealing with an arm injury. Despite this setback, they are gearing up for their debut at the United Cup.
Raducanu had opted out of the Billie Jean King Cup to focus on individual competitions in Asia but is now thrilled at the prospect of representing Team GB alongside Draper. In a statement, Raducanu expressed her honor at making her United Cup debut and the excitement of playing for her country in a new format while spending extra time in Australia.
On the other hand, Draper conveyed his enthusiasm for returning to competition at the United Cup. He eagerly awaits the draw to see if Team GB will compete in Perth or Sydney, both new cities for him in Australia.
Raducanu faced challenges during the Asian swing post-US Open, including health issues and early exits from tournaments. However, she is now focused on recuperating before the United Cup in January. Draper, who had to withdraw from the US Open due to an arm injury, is preparing for his return at the UTS London exhibition event.
After these exhibition events, Raducanu and Draper will kick off their 2026 seasons at the United Cup before setting their sights on the Australian Open.
