“Derbyshire Bomb Scare Resolved, Residents Return Home”

Must Read

A man’s sudden death in a Derbyshire village prompted the activation of a bomb squad and the evacuation of residents from approximately 50 homes. The incident occurred at a property on Church Lane, Horsley Woodhouse, with authorities responding to the situation around 7:30 am on Friday, October 10. Concerns arose over potential hazards in a shed, leading to the closure of Church Lane and the evacuation of nearby properties between Stainsby Avenue and Calladine Lane.

Following an assessment by the Explosive Ordnance Division, it was determined that there was no extended threat to public safety. The examination of two sheds on the property revealed items associated with legally possessed firearms, which were safely disposed of by the authorities. The death of the man is not considered suspicious, and his family has been notified, with preparations underway for a coroner’s report.

Derbyshire Constabulary announced on Saturday that the police cordon in Horsley Woodhouse was removed after the precautionary evacuations the previous day. The situation was deemed secure, and residents were allowed to return to their homes.
