The sibling of Cheryl Grimmer, a British toddler who vanished under mysterious circumstances, has revealed a heart-wrenching confession about the day his little sister disappeared.
The Grimmer family, comprising parents Carole and Vince, and children Cheryl, Ricki, Stephen, and Paul, relocated from Bristol to Australia in 1968 for a fresh start. However, less than two years later, three-year-old Cheryl went missing.
On January 12, 1970, Cheryl, along with her mother and brothers, spent the morning at the beach while their father, Vince, was on duty with the Australian army. Around 1:30 pm, in the scorching heat, Carole decided it was time to leave.
After the children headed to the shower block, Ricki, Cheryl’s seven-year-old brother, reported to their mother that Cheryl refused to come out. When Carole arrived at the shower block, Cheryl had vanished, prompting a frantic search and a call to the police.
Despite extensive search efforts and investigations, Cheryl was never located, leaving the family, particularly Ricki, haunted by her disappearance for over five decades. Ricki vividly remembers the events of that day, regretting his decision to leave his sister and fetch their mother.
Ricki, now determined to uncover the truth about Cheryl’s fate, shared the ongoing emotional toll the incident had on their family, especially the blame he received from his parents. The family recently confronted ‘Mercury,’ a local teen who confessed to Cheryl’s murder in the early 1970s, demanding further information to bring closure to the case.
Although Mercury was arrested and charged in 2017, the case was dismissed, prolonging the family’s anguish. However, Australian parliamentarian Jeremy Buckingham has renewed efforts to reinvestigate Cheryl’s murder, urging accountability and justice for the Grimmer family’s enduring suffering.
