A joint statement from the Injured Jockeys’ Fund and Professional Jockeys Association confirmed the heartbreaking news of Tommie Jakes’ death at his residence near Newmarket.

Described as a beloved son, brother, and valued member of George Boughey’s racing team, Tommie Jakes had recently ridden at Nottingham and was scheduled to ride for trainer Ismail Mohammed at Chelmsford.

With 59 wins to his credit since 2023, Tommie Jakes had showcased immense talent in the weighing room, securing his first apprentice victory on Suzi’s Connoisseur at Lingfield under trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam.

Following his father’s footsteps into racing, Tommie Jakes had a notable racing background, having even excelled in pony racing, winning decisively at Warwick. His final triumph came aboard Fouroneohfever at Catterick.

Acknowledged for his horsemanship and dedication, Tommie Jakes had garnered praise from trainers and colleagues alike. The British Horseracing Authority expressed deep sorrow over his passing, highlighting his promising career and the support available for those affected.
