Amazon is rolling out a significant free upgrade for select Fire TV Stick models to enhance user experience. The update includes a fresh design featuring a modern interface with updated typography, redesigned color gradients, and improved layouts on the homescreen. Navigation will be faster, with performance enhancements of up to 30 percent when moving through menus, as promised by Amazon.
Apart from visual changes and speed boosts, users will now be able to pin up to 20 apps on the home screen, up from the previous limit of six. Access to Games, Art & Photos, and the Ambient Experience has been made more user-friendly through the Menu button on the remote control.
Additionally, Amazon has introduced a new shortcut panel accessible by long-pressing the Home button. This panel offers quick access to essential Fire TV controls, such as audio and display settings.
An upgraded assistant called Alexa+ is another significant addition, expected to launch in the UK later this year. The improved Alexa aims to simplify content discovery and make it more intuitive for users.
In addition to the Fire TV Stick update, Amazon is redesigning the Fire TV mobile app. Beyond functioning as a backup remote, the updated app will soon allow users to browse content, manage watchlists, and play titles directly on their TVs, aligning with the new Fire TV interface design.
Once installed, the app will transform smartphones into a second screen, enabling users to explore new shows or add recommendations to watchlists even when away from home. Amazon has assured that the app will remain free for download.
The update rollout will begin in the U.S., with plans to extend to other regions later this year. The new Fire TV update is initially for the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus, Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen), and Fire TV Omni Mini-LED Series in the U.S., with Amazon aiming to expand availability to more devices and countries, including the latest Fire TV 4K streaming media players, in the upcoming months.
