“FIFA World Cup 2026: Semi-Final Ticket Listed for £161K”

Must Read

Football enthusiasts were dismayed when a ticket for a 2026 World Cup semi-final was listed for sale at a staggering £161,000 on an authorized FIFA resale platform. The revelation sparked anger among supporters just before the tournament draw, with England superfan Neal Weekes denouncing the exorbitant prices as scandalous.

As anticipation builds for the upcoming tournament draw, fans from England and Scotland eagerly await to discover their teams’ fate and the venues for next summer’s matches across the US, Canada, and Mexico. However, scrutiny of FIFA’s resale platform has revealed shockingly high ticket prices, as the governing body seeks to regulate the secondary market with a 15% fee for both buyers and sellers.

One particular Category 2 ticket for the tournament’s second semi-final in Atlanta on July 15 is currently priced at £161,000, excluding a facilitation fee of £24,355, making the total cost a substantial £185,485. Surprisingly, these prices surpass those of the World Cup final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Weekes criticized the situation, highlighting the potential profit FIFA could make from such sales. He emphasized the concerning trend of inflated prices on the official resale platform, questioning the ethics of offering tickets at such exorbitant rates. Moreover, the upcoming World Cup in 2026 promises to be a costly affair for fans, with primary market ticket prices ranging from £45.37 to £4,817, significantly higher than previous tournaments.

With the tournament expanding to 48 teams for the first time and scheduled for June and July next year, football enthusiasts are gearing up for an exciting event. The draw, set to take place in Washington DC, will see the potential participation of US President Donald Trump. As teams like England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland prepare for possible matchups against emerging finalists, fans are bracing for a thrilling competition with tickets ranging from £1,535 to £5,089 for the final.

In contrast, the previous World Cup in Qatar witnessed a Category 1 ticket for the final priced at £1,214, offering fans exceptional value for their investment. Notable players like Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi delivered a memorable performance, culminating in an intense 3-3 draw decided by a penalty shootout. FIFA’s stance on the escalated ticket prices remains a subject of interest among football enthusiasts.
