At least three individuals have been taken to the hospital following a shooting incident at a shopping center amidst the Black Friday sales, causing chaos among shoppers seeking shelter.
An active manhunt is currently in progress for the perpetrator responsible for the terrifying attack at the Westfield Valley Fair Mall in San Jose, California. Multiple individuals are receiving medical treatment for gunshot injuries, according to the police.
During the incident that occurred at 5:40 pm local time yesterday, a man, a woman, and a 16-year-old girl sustained injuries, as reported by Sergeant Jorge Garibay of the San Jose Police Department.
Authorities have labeled the event as an “isolated incident,” emphasizing that there is no ongoing danger to the public, as confirmed by the San Jose Police Department.
Officials suspect the shooting stemmed from a dispute between the alleged gunman and the male victim, inadvertently involving the two female victims, as indicated by KRON4.
A witness, Shawn Kulasingham, aged 23, recounted hearing a loud noise followed by a chaotic scene with a large crowd of people. He described the situation as a stampede, with the building seeming to vibrate.
Kulasingham mentioned taking cover in a secure-looking store, Abercrombie & Fitch, with his sister and father. They sought refuge behind clothing racks and cabinets while witnessing the panic unfolding around them.
Approximately 20 customers were guided into storage closets at Bloomingdales by store security, including Bilal Zuberi and his wife, who shared their experience of the incident. Although they did not hear gunshots, there was widespread panic, and an announcement advised everyone to stay put as the doors were secured.
