A heartbreaking photo has brought attention to the tragic death of a two-year-old girl who was left in a hot car by her father. Parker Scholtes was left in the vehicle for nearly three-and-a-half hours until her mother, Erika, discovered her unconscious upon returning home. Christopher, the father, had initially intended to let Parker sleep for an additional 30 minutes in the car but got distracted, engaging in activities like playing video games and watching adult content as the toddler suffered in extreme temperatures in Marana, Arizona.
Newly released images show small handprints on the car window, indicating Parker’s desperate attempt to escape the heat inside the vehicle. The Marana Police Department, who investigated the incident, shared the disturbing picture revealing handprints scattered across the glass. Christopher was later arrested and charged with murder. However, prior to his sentencing, the 38-year-old man tragically took his own life in jail.
Despite Christopher’s demise, authorities have disclosed additional details about the case. They revealed that he consumed alcohol, played video games, and watched adult content inside the air-conditioned home while Parker struggled in the car. The toddler was only discovered when Erika, who works as an anesthesiologist, returned home from work. Police reports indicated that the car seat’s surface temperature was extremely high at 149.1F.
Parker, who was strapped in a forward-facing car seat, managed to reach the driver’s side window where she left her fingerprints. Nearby, an iPad with a pink case and small pink sandals were found on the floor. The car’s positioning allowed the sun to raise the interior temperature rapidly. Christopher, who had expected a lengthy jail sentence, explained to police that he had left Parker in the car with the engine running and air-conditioning on, but the engine shut off automatically after 20 minutes, as confirmed by police investigations.
