A man without a home shared a terrifying ordeal where an individual, described as a psycho, viciously attacked him by gouging out one of his eyes, gnawing at his face, and pushing it into the ground.
The attacker, identified as Rudy Eugene, aged 31, assaulted Ronald Poppo in Miami, Florida, after undressing near a causeway and exhibiting erratic behavior. Eugene, a Miami resident, displayed unusual speech patterns and loud screams before commencing the savage assault.
According to reports from The Guardian US, Eugene strangled Poppo, engaged in wrestling maneuvers, and attempted to gouge out his eyes following a distressing experience at the beach. Poppo recounted to police in 2012 how Eugene violently assaulted him, leaving him with severe facial injuries and a lost eye.
Poppo mentioned that Eugene initially seemed cheerful before abruptly turning aggressive. Poppo recalled thinking Eugene was amiable briefly but then witnessed a sudden shift in behavior. Eugene spiraled into a frenzy, uttering threats and exhibiting bizarre speech, leading to the brutal attack.
Police intervened by fatally shooting Eugene after he ignored repeated warnings and growled at them. Poppo clarified that he had no prior interaction with Eugene and did nothing to provoke the assault.
Initial speculations hinted at Eugene being under the influence of dangerous street drugs like bath salts. However, toxicology reports debunked these claims, revealing only the presence of marijuana in Eugene’s system, with no traces of alcohol or other substances.
Family members of Eugene, including his brother Marckenson Charles, expressed shock at his violent actions, emphasizing that it was uncharacteristic of his usual demeanor. They struggled to find an explanation for his behavior, refuting claims of drug or alcohol abuse.
Eugene’s girlfriend suggested supernatural reasons behind the attack, claiming that someone might have inflicted harm on him. Meanwhile, Poppo underwent extensive reconstructive surgeries in the months following the assault, with a foundation established in his name that garnered substantial financial support.
