“Girl kept in bedroom, starved for years by own family”

Must Read

A 14-year-old girl was reportedly confined to her bedroom and deprived of food for over two years by her severely overweight family, who monitored her through a webcam. Initially mistaken for a much younger child, she was discovered in a malnourished state by authorities in Wisconsin, weighing only 2.5 stone. Hospitalized and placed on a feeding tube due to extreme malnutrition, she claimed to have not left the house since she was around ten to twelve years old.

Four individuals, including her father and stepmother, have been arrested on charges of chronic child neglect. Allegations indicate that the girl moved in with her father’s family in 2020 after her mother’s incarceration. She was allegedly subjected to severe restrictions, locked in a room with minimal access to necessities, and monitored closely by her family members.

The father had installed a webcam and alarm system in the girl’s room due to concerns about self-harm, as revealed in police documents. Reports suggest that family members engaged in verbal abuse and physical mistreatment towards the girl, with text messages containing derogatory language and references to violent actions.

Although the father claimed the girl had autism and fed her regularly, a former teacher disputed these claims, describing the girl as sociable and communicative. Neighbors were shocked by the discovery of the girl’s condition, with one witness expressing regret for not intervening sooner upon seeing frequent food deliveries to the house.

Medical evaluations confirmed the girl suffered from severe malnutrition and organ dysfunction, but she is now stable and receiving care with other relatives. Reports indicate she is making progress in her recovery, having gained weight and height after being released from the hospital. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support her ongoing healing journey, emphasizing her resilience and positive outlook on the future.

All four accused individuals are scheduled to appear in court in the near future.
