Cancer Survivor Killed by Garbage Truck in Santa Ana Tragedy

A 69-year-old woman, Maria Rubalcava de Ruesga, who had successfully battled pancreatic cancer, tragically lost her life after being struck and decapitated by a garbage truck while crossing West Bishop Street in Santa Ana, California. The incident occurred just after 7 am on Wednesday, witnessed by schoolchildren and families from Pio Pico Elementary School. Responding to multiple calls, authorities arrived at the scene, where it was determined that the truck had hit Ms. de Ruesga on a roundabout as she was crossing the road.

The driver of the garbage truck stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Sadly, Ms. de Ruesga was pronounced dead at the scene. She had recently been in remission for a year following her battle with pancreatic cancer. A GoFundMe campaign was launched to assist with her funeral expenses, as reported by the Express US.

Described as someone who had just started feeling like herself again after surviving cancer, Ms. de Ruesga’s sudden and tragic passing has left her loved ones in shock. The campaign has garnered over $7,100 in donations by Sunday evening, with heartfelt messages emphasizing her loving and strong nature. The fundraising efforts aim to provide her with a dignified farewell and cover the necessary expenses.

The GoFundMe campaign expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support during this difficult time, encouraging further donations or sharing of the page to honor Ms. de Ruesga’s memory.
