“Nutrition Expert Challenges Perception of Ultra-Processed Foods”

Must Read

With a rise in the classification of items like beans, bread, and burgers as ultra-processed foods, individuals in the UK are now questioning the nutritional value of their food choices for themselves and their families.

However, a prominent nutrition expert in the UK argues that not all alternatives to processed meat should be viewed negatively, as some can offer high levels of protein, fiber, and low amounts of saturated fats.

Renowned nutritionist Rhiannon Lambert, also known as Rhitrition to her 500,000 followers on Instagram, has partnered with Quorn, the UK’s largest meat-free brand, to dispel confusion surrounding ‘processed’ foods.

The search interest in ‘ultra-processed foods’ has surged in the past year as more individuals strive to adopt healthier eating habits. Nonetheless, experts argue that the term itself has led to more alarm than actual progress.

Rhiannon, a registered nutritionist and acclaimed author, emphasizes that not all ‘ultra-processed’ foods should be stigmatized.

According to Rhiannon, “It’s crucial to recognize that not all ultra-processed foods are created equal, and Quorn offers a meat-free option that is rich in protein, fiber, and low in saturated fats, with scientific backing for its positive impact on health.”

To assist individuals in navigating the terminology, Quorn has developed a comprehensive fact sheet to debunk myths related to ‘ultra-processed’ foods, elucidating the beneficial aspects of processing in food safety, affordability, and sustainability.

Lucy Grogut, representing Quorn Foods UK, expresses concern that the debate has been overly one-sided.

Lucy remarks, “It’s disheartening to witness the broad dismissal and vilification of meat-free options in the context of sweeping generalizations about ‘processed’ foods.

“Our products offer a nutritious, delightful, and beneficial protein alternative.

“Through our collaboration with Rhiannon, we aim to provide straightforward expert insights that genuinely assist individuals in making improved food selections, cutting through the noise.”

Certain products from Quorn are now produced without artificial components, such as Mince and Pieces, which now contain just four and three ingredients, respectively, catering to consumers seeking concise, clean ingredient lists without compromising on taste.

2. Plan your meals and create a shopping list
