EE, a BT-owned company, has launched a new feature called Smart Search on its TV devices to simplify the content discovery process for users. This feature allows users to search for shows based on mood, themes, plot details, or memorable quotes, eliminating the need to know specific titles. By utilizing Smart Search, viewers can easily find content across live TV, on-demand services, and streaming apps in one convenient location.
In addition to Smart Search, EE has introduced Mood Matcher, an AI-powered tool that further refines viewing options by considering user preferences for mood, genres, and themes. This tool provides personalized recommendations, making it easier for families to choose movies or shows on weekend evenings. While Sky offers similar voice search capabilities, EE touts itself as the first pay-TV service in the UK to offer conversational, AI-powered search functionality.
Luciano Oliveira, Director of Product, Home & TV at EE, emphasized the simplicity of using Smart Search and Mood Matcher, stating that users can describe what they want to watch, answer a few questions, and let EE TV handle the rest. Paolo Pescatore, a technology analyst, highlighted that improved content discovery enhances the overall viewing experience, particularly in a landscape where audiences are inundated with content choices.
These features are currently accessible through the EE TV app on compatible TVs, with compatibility for EE TV Pro and EE TV Box Edge devices expected soon. More information can be found on ee.co.uk/smartsearch.
