A children’s play area in West End Quarter has been labeled by parents as the most miserable park due to issues with rats, dog waste, and litter. The park, situated between Westbrook Drive and Shorncliffe Road in Folkestone, was constructed by Bellway Homes as part of a nearby housing development.
Local families have expressed frustration over the deteriorating condition of the play area, citing an overflowing bin, presence of vermin, and lack of suitable play equipment for young children. Concerned parent Adam Groombridge, who frequents the park with his five-year-old daughter, has refrained from allowing her to play there due to the unsanitary conditions.
Efforts to address the situation, including contacting park management to address the overflowing bin, have yielded slow responses and minimal action. Residents have also reported sightings of rats in the area, further fueling concerns about safety and hygiene.
Despite being built by Bellway Homes, the maintenance of the park falls under the responsibility of Gateway PLC. Complaints from residents regarding issues such as overflowing bins have been ongoing for years, with some expressing disappointment over the lack of upkeep despite high maintenance fees.
Bellway Homes has clarified that they no longer oversee the park’s maintenance post-handover to the managing agent. Meanwhile, inquiries have been made to Gateway PLC for their input on the matter.
