The family of a teenage boy who was reportedly soaked in gasoline and set on fire has disclosed the severe nature of his wounds.

On the evening of October 13, Jacob Thompson, 19, was walking along Cowper Street in Coonabarabran, Australia, when he was approached by a man and two women. According to reports, one of them poured a liquid on Jacob, causing him to ignite. Bystanders managed to put out the fire before Jacob was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Jacob’s family has shared that he suffered burns covering 32% of his body, with extensive third-degree burns on his face, torso, arms, back, and legs. Due to the critical condition of his injuries and airway damage, Jacob was airlifted to Sydney, where he was placed in a medically induced coma on life support.

Jacob is currently receiving intensive care at Concord Hospital in Sydney, with his family by his side. The family described the incident as deeply traumatic, leaving lasting physical and emotional scars that will require a long healing process.

Authorities have confirmed the arrest of a 45-year-old woman, a 19-year-old man, and a 17-year-old girl in connection with the incident. The man faces charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and affray, while the woman is charged with affray. They have been remanded in custody, while the teenage girl was released pending further investigation.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support the family during their relocation and Jacob’s recovery journey. The fundraising page emphasizes that any contribution, regardless of size, will assist in rebuilding Jacob and his family’s lives.
