A devoted couple, Larry and Deborah Dutton, who had lovingly raised their granddaughter Heidi in Dewey, Oklahoma, found themselves in a tragic situation. Larry, a retired US Air Force master staff sergeant, and Deborah, a former Air Force member turned chef, had provided a nurturing environment for Heidi since adopting her as an infant. The community they lived in was serene and ideal for a young girl to grow up in.
Heidi, at the age of 17, had been dating Lucas Walker, 20, for a few months. Walker frequently visited their rural home, and Heidi’s behavior had shifted since their relationship began, becoming more isolated and influenced by her older boyfriend.
Concerns arose in January 2023 when family and neighbors realized they had not seen Larry and Deborah since before Christmas. Worried about their well-being, multiple requests were made to the police for a welfare check on the couple.
Upon visiting the Duttons’ property on January 19, law enforcement officers detected a strong odor of decomposing flesh and cleaning products, prompting them to obtain a search warrant. Dutton and Walker were present as the authorities conducted a thorough search, revealing disturbing evidence of a crime scene within the home.
Further investigation unveiled bloodstains, hidden jewelry, and traces of blood on the walls that had been attempted to be wiped clean. A disturbed patch of dirt in the backyard led to the discovery of Deborah and Larry’s bodies buried in a shallow grave.
Dutton and Walker were arrested on suspicion of murdering the couple. Subsequent confessions revealed a premeditated and violent attack on the grandparents, orchestrated by Walker with Dutton’s involvement.
