“Alpine F1 Team Stake Sale Considered by Celebrity Investors”

Must Read

An investment firm that enlisted various sports celebrities to co-own the Alpine Formula 1 racing team is reportedly considering selling its stake. Otro Capital, part of a consortium that acquired nearly a quarter of the Enstone-based team in 2023, is contemplating divesting its interest.

Among the notable personalities involved in the ownership structure are Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, owners of Wrexham AFC, who secured a portion of the 24% stake through their firm, Maximum Effort Investments. Besides them, Otro Capital brought in its own set of star investors, including former world No.1 golfer Rory McIlroy, two-time heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua, football players Juan Mata and Trent Alexander-Arnold, and three-time Super Bowl champions Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.

Despite the star-studded investor lineup, discussions are underway regarding Otro Capital potentially selling its share in the Alpine team. The team’s value stood around £685 million when the investment was made two years ago, reflecting the growing popularity of F1 and the subsequent rise in team valuations.

In a related development, Red Bull Racing rejected a substantial offer for their junior squad, Racing Bulls, while Haas turned down several lucrative bids this year. If Otro Capital decides to cash out, it could yield a significant profit from its £165 million investment in the consortium back in 2023. However, talks of a potential sale are reportedly in the early stages.

The future plans of Reynolds, McElhenney, and RedBird Capital Partners, who are part of the consortium, remain uncertain. Alpine’s current performance places them at the bottom of the constructors’ championship with only 20 points this season, significantly trailing Sauber, the team directly above them.

Alpine’s lackluster showing this year is partly attributed to their decision not to focus on car development and instead concentrate on the 2026 season. They will also switch to new Mercedes power units next season, replacing the underperforming Renault engines. The team is yet to announce its driver lineup for 2026, with Pierre Gasly already confirmed for the upcoming season.

The fate of Franco Colapinto, who has yet to score a point in 2025, remains uncertain. Speculations suggest that the Argentine driver may continue with the team, with a potential announcement expected before the next weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix.

Ahead of the 2025/26 season, Sky has reduced the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle, offering savings of £192 for members and providing access to over 1,400 live matches across various leagues, including the Premier League and EFL. Sky will broadcast a minimum of 215 live Premier League games next season, an increase of up to 100 matches from the previous season.
