“O2 Introduces 5G+ Upgrade for Faster, Enhanced Coverage”

Must Read

O2 has officially announced that numerous customers are in the process of receiving a complimentary rapid upgrade. This upgrade entails the introduction of quicker 5G+ services to consumers throughout the UK, providing improved mobile coverage and significantly faster download speeds. O2 guarantees a 50% increase in performance compared to the previous 4G network.

Aside from speed and reliability enhancements, users can also anticipate increased battery life as devices consume less power by no longer requiring simultaneous connections to both 4G and 5G networks. This contrasts with older standard 5G technology, which relies on 4G infrastructure for operation.

The upgrade is currently being rolled out for users with 5G+ compatible devices and SIM cards, with over 700 towns and cities already activated for the enhanced service.

Christian Hindennach, the Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Media O2, elaborated on the development, stating, “Our 5G+ service is now accessible to millions of customers nationwide, and uniquely, it is available to all O2 customers across various plans, unlike other providers. This enhancement improves performance in high-traffic areas, including crowded venues, benefiting both residents and visitors. It underscores Virgin Media O2’s dedication to enhancing network capabilities and delivering a more dependable user experience. We are investing £2 million daily to assist customers in embracing upcoming mobile innovations.”

To check local availability, users can utilize O2’s postcode checker tool online. Noteworthy 5G+ compatible devices include the iPhone 15, iPhone 16 (including 16e), iPhone 17, Google Pixel 9 series (including Fold), and Google Pixel 10 series (including Fold).

5G+ denotes an upgraded iteration of 5G mobile networks that leverage advanced technologies such as higher-frequency spectrum, enhanced antennas, and network optimization to provide accelerated speeds, reduced latency, and increased capacity.
