Health Secretary Makes Nervous TV Appearance, Announces NHS Menopause Initiative

Must Read

Wes Streeting expressed his highest level of nervousness while making an appearance on the show Loose Women, fearing he might accidentally damage the set. During his time on the ITV daytime program, the Health Secretary humorously mentioned almost causing disruption by nearly tipping over the table, attributing his nerves to recovering from a severe cold throughout the week.

Streeting, a key member of the cabinet, featured on the show to announce a significant development in healthcare services. He shared that inquiries about menopause will now be part of routine NHS health assessments, potentially benefiting millions of women in England.

During the interview, Streeting admitted, “I almost knocked the table over. This is the most nervous I’ve ever felt… I thought great, I’m going to trip up or I’ll destroy the set. I’ve made it in one piece.” Host Jane Moore lightened the mood by jesting, “It’s because you care, Wes.”

The initiative to include menopause-related questions in health checks aims to address the long-standing issue of women enduring menopausal symptoms silently. Streeting emphasized the importance of providing support to women going through menopause and perimenopause, acknowledging the struggles they face due to a lack of visibility and understanding in the healthcare system.

Menopause typically occurs between ages 45 and 55 when menstrual periods cease due to decreased hormone levels. The transitional phase leading to menopause, known as perimenopause, can last for several years before the final period.

NHS health assessments, offered every five years to eligible individuals aged 40 to 74, play a crucial role in identifying potential risks of conditions like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, dementia, and stroke.

Streeting emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing women’s healthcare services and providing the necessary support and recognition to those experiencing menopause and perimenopause, addressing their longstanding demands for visibility and assistance within the healthcare system.
