A vibrant and sociable teenager tragically passed away after suddenly falling ill while watching a movie at a cinema. Kasey-Lei Greene, a 13-year-old from Sutton Coldfield, collapsed during a fun outing with a friend on September 4. Having relocated to Abu Dhabi with her family 14 months prior, she fell ill at the Vox Cinema in Yas Mall. Despite efforts from emergency services and medics who worked tirelessly for two hours both at the scene and in a hospital, she sadly succumbed to a cardiac arrest.
Kasey’s father, Marc, recounted the distressing moment when informed by her friend about her collapse at the cinema. He described the swift response of the cinema staff and medical professionals, including the use of a defibrillator and an ambulance crew arriving promptly. Despite their efforts, Kasey’s passing was confirmed as a result of cardiac arrest.
Before heading to the cinema, Kasey shared a poignant moment with her father, urging a quick photo with him and her friend. This uncharacteristic gesture of spontaneity left a lasting impression on her father. The Greene family had recently relocated to Abu Dhabi in July 2024, with plans to move into a new home being constructed for them.
Described as bubbly, outgoing, and caring, Kasey had a talent for bringing people together from diverse backgrounds. Her funeral saw a massive turnout, with over 600 attendees paying their respects. A devoted Aston Villa fan, Kasey was also an admirer of rapper Travis Scott and had been eagerly anticipating his performance in Abu Dhabi.
In memory of Kasey, her family initiated a GoFundMe campaign named Kasey’s Wells of Life, aiming to fund water wells in Africa. The project was inspired by a Muslim friend of Kasey’s, emphasizing the importance of performing charitable acts in honor of the departed. The initiative seeks to install water pumps in Kenya, Tanzania, and Cameroon to provide sustainable access to water for communities in need.
The Greene family expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received and found solace in the positive impact Kasey’s legacy continues to have through the charitable endeavor.
