Google to Allow Gmail Users to Change Email Addresses

Must Read

Gmail users might soon receive a much-awaited upgrade from Google. It seems that Google is gearing up to introduce a significant enhancement that will allow users to modify their email addresses. Previously, once an @gmail.com address was set up, changing it was not an option, requiring users to create a new account if they desired a different email name.

However, according to observations by the attentive team at 9to5Google, Google is preparing to enable users to make substantial alterations to their accounts. A support document outlines the process, indicating that the old address will automatically forward emails to the new one.

This potential update could be well-received by individuals who established accounts in the past but now wish to change their email names due to preferences or life changes.

“The email address linked to your Google Account is crucial for accessing Google services,” Google clarified. “This email address serves as an identifier for your account. If desired, users can switch their Google Account email address from one ending in gmail.com to a new one also ending in gmail.com.”

Both the old and new email addresses will receive emails, ensuring that data stored in the account, such as photos, messages, and emails sent to the old address, remains unaffected.

As of now, there is no specific timeline for the release of this feature to users or details on its availability in different regions. It is noteworthy that Google’s initial announcement was only presented in a support document in Hindi, hinting that users in India might be among the first to access this feature.

Expect more information from Google soon if you are eager to change your current email address and adopt something new.
