“Louvre Museum Lockdown: Thieves Steal France’s Crown Jewels”

Must Read

Paris’ Louvre Museum went into lockdown following a daring heist where thieves stole France’s crown jewels in broad daylight. The group, characterized as highly organized, broke into the world’s most visited museum on Sunday morning using power tools and escaped on scooters with eight valuable pieces of jewelry.

Police have initiated a widespread manhunt for the culprits, who meticulously planned the major operation, according to Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez. President Emmanuel Macron assured that the thieves would be apprehended, and the stolen items would be recovered.

The robbery occurred shortly after the museum opened on Sunday, with four masked individuals using a vehicle-mounted lift to access a balcony near the Galerie d’Apollon. Two of the thieves cut through glass panes, entered the museum, and swiftly stole royal treasures before attempting to set fire to their vehicle, which was stopped by a vigilant staff member.

Culture Minister Rachida Dati mentioned that the robbers entered calmly and conducted themselves professionally without violence. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez stated that the entire raid lasted only seven minutes, causing panic as the Louvre was evacuated and sealed off.

The stolen treasures include tiaras, necklaces, earrings, and brooches from the 19th century, once owned by French royalty and imperial rulers. The items, encrusted with diamonds and rare gemstones, hold significant historical and cultural value.

The stolen jewels are considered priceless and hold immeasurable heritage value, as described by Nuñez. A visitor captured a video showing one of the thieves cutting open a display cabinet and escaping with the stolen goods. Police are examining evidence, including a ladder used in the break-in, to track down the suspects.

The Louvre has a history of security breaches, notably in 1911 when the Mona Lisa was stolen and later recovered. Recent thefts in French museums have raised concerns, with valuable artifacts being targeted in various incidents.
