“Survey: Women Embrace New Sports, Face Participation Barriers”

Must Read

A recent survey uncovered that 64% of women have embraced a new sport within the last year, such as rugby, football, and tennis, drawing inspiration from the achievements of the Lionesses and English Roses. Despite this, several barriers hinder many individuals from participating in sports.

A study of 2,000 adults revealed that 46% of women express a strong desire to engage in physical activities but feel constrained by certain factors. Common obstacles include the high cost of participation, limited access to suitable facilities, and equipment predominantly designed for men. Additionally, challenges like lack of confidence, low energy levels, and the absence of a workout partner contribute to the reluctance to join sports.

The research also highlighted that 38% of respondents find themselves in a cycle where they feel unfit to join a sports team but struggle to improve their fitness levels due to lack of participation.

Furthermore, the survey identified that individuals are more prone to experiencing symptoms linked to dehydration, such as dizziness and decreased motivation.

The investigation, conducted by Liquid I. V., indicated that while 75% of participants recognize the importance of staying hydrated for enhancing performance, a lack of knowledge often affects their concentration and drive.

Former England midfielder Jill Scott, in collaboration with the powdered hydration brand for the brand-new Hot Seat Series, emphasized the significance of staying motivated and hydrated. She stressed the impact of appropriate support in maintaining optimal performance levels.

Scott noted, “Whether engaging in a competitive match or a quick run, dehydration leads to the loss of essential electrolytes crucial for muscle and cognitive function.”

The study disclosed that women typically engage in shorter workout sessions compared to men, with only 21% of women exercising for over an hour, as opposed to 30% of men.

In terms of inspirational figures promoting participation in new sports, women favored Jessica Ennis (19%), while men leaned towards footballers Harry Kane or Marcus Rashford.

Jill Scott further emphasized the importance of replenishing both water and electrolytes to enhance performance, recovery, and overall dedication to sports.

“Hydration remains a top priority for me every day,” she added.
