“Father of Four Poisoned in GP’s Deadly Scheme”

Must Read

The second victim of a poisoning scheme orchestrated by GP Thomas Kwan expressed his concerns for his children upon learning that he had ingested a toxic substance previously used for rat extermination.

Torquil Gundlach, a father of four, disclosed how he became unwell after consuming a bottle of vodka spiked with thallium by Kwan, a once esteemed family physician. Kwan’s scheme targeted Torquil’s father-in-law, Patrick O’Hara, by sending him poisoned alcohol from a counterfeit ‘wine and drinks club’.

Before Kwan disguised himself as a Covid nurse to administer a lethal pesticide to 72-year-old Mr. O’Hara, nearly causing his death in a dispute over Kwan’s inheritance, he had already attempted to harm him by poisoning Torquil with the same hazardous substance.

Torquil, a 51-year-old project manager from Scotland, shared his harrowing experience, expressing empathy towards Kwan despite the distress caused to his family. He highlighted the potential danger posed to his older children who could have unknowingly consumed the poisoned vodka intended for him.

Reflecting on the traumatic incident, Torquil, a biochemistry graduate, emphasized the recklessness of Kwan’s actions and the distress it inflicted on his family. He underwent counseling to cope with the aftermath of the ordeal.

The court trial revealed the existence of the fictitious ‘Northern Wine and Drinks Tasting Gentlemen’s Club’ used by Kwan in his nefarious plot. Torquil, who has children aged between 9 and 21, recalled receiving the tainted vodka from Mr. O’Hara.

Despite being reassured about his health, Torquil remained concerned about the well-being of Mr. O’Hara, who had a higher exposure to the poison. The failed attempt with alcohol preceded Kwan’s escalated scheme involving a Covid jab, which came to light during the trial.

Kwan, who had financial interests and assets, including an NHS pension and property, faced legal consequences for his murderous intentions and deceitful actions. The sentencing for his crimes was scheduled for January 30 at Newcastle Crown Court.
