In a solemn Calgary courtroom, a prosecutor revealed disturbing text messages exchanged between two men who conspired to abduct, restrain, and sexually assault women in order to create and sell videos of their heinous acts. Steven Zwick meticulously detailed plans to subdue his ex-girlfriend Chelsea Davidenas, but their intended crime was thwarted as Davidenas valiantly fought back, ultimately losing her life in the struggle.
Zwick, initially charged with first-degree murder, admitted guilt to second-degree murder and received a life sentence with 15 years before parole eligibility. Another individual, identified as PR, is also implicated in the case, with pending charges and a future trial. The narrative of the horrific events was narrated in court by prosecutor Vicki Faulkner, based on a jointly agreed factual statement.
The collaboration between Zwick and PR, with a significant age gap between them, unfolded through a series of text exchanges outlining their sinister intentions to lure and violate women for profit. After failing to ensnare their initial target, the men turned their attention to Davidenas, orchestrating a chilling sequence of events leading to her tragic demise.
The men callously left Davidenas’ body in PR’s room while hatching plans for another victim, expressing callous disregard for human life and a disturbing eagerness to profit from their depraved actions. Despite their subsequent attempts, their sinister schemes were thwarted by the courage and quick thinking of potential victims, leading to their eventual apprehension by law enforcement.
During sentencing, the presiding judge condemned the nefarious plot as despicable, acknowledging the profound impact on the victims’ loved ones who shared heartfelt sentiments in court. The harrowing ordeal serves as a stark reminder of the heinous depths to which individuals can descend in pursuit of their perverse desires, leaving a community in shock and mourning the loss of innocent lives.
