Prince George RCMP officials have verified that an individual passed away following a plane’s emergency landing on Thursday along Foothills Boulevard, approximately 1.5 kilometers north of North Nechako Road. The RCMP mentioned that two motor vehicles were part of the incident. A statement from the RCMP expressed condolences for the fatality, stating it was an occupant of one of the vehicles. The condition of the other vehicle occupants and those on the plane remains unknown.
Authorities have advised the public to steer clear of the area, with Foothills Boulevard shut down in both directions, expected to remain closed overnight and through Friday. The Transportation Safety Board will take over the investigation, as confirmed by the police.
The emergency landing occurred around 2:30 p.m. PT on Foothills Boulevard near Highland Drive in northern Prince George. B.C. Emergency Health Services responded to the scene after receiving a distress call. Paramedics assessed ten individuals, with two patients transported to the hospital in stable condition.
Witness Mohit Arora recalled the harrowing moment the plane descended onto the road, narrowly missing his vehicle. Arora described the collision with a pickup truck and the subsequent injuries sustained by the truck driver. Fortunately, he escaped harm as the aircraft’s propeller narrowly avoided his car.
The incident involving the Beech King Air 200 aircraft prompted a significant response from emergency teams. Images captured at the scene depict the damaged aircraft, a yellow car on the roadside, and a pickup truck with debris from the aircraft through its windshield. Authorities are urging people to avoid the area, as the road closure is expected to last for an extended period.
