The Town of Small Point-Broad Cove-Blackhead-Adam’s Cove faced severe wildfires last summer, but a couple from the Codroy Valley stepped in to help by donating more than 450 trees to the community. Harrison Bragg and Judy Warren, who are closing their nursery business, transported the trees to Conception Bay North to distribute them to the locals. Warren expressed their desire to assist the community in need after witnessing the devastation caused by the fires.
Despite a delay due to a vehicle accident on the Trans-Canada highway, Bragg and Warren persisted and arrived in the town late, opting to spend the night in their truck. The following day, after organizing a meet-up spot, community members eagerly gathered to collect the donated trees. Bragg shared his joy in witnessing the community’s happiness and eagerness to learn about planting and caring for the trees.
Warren was moved by the stories shared by residents, particularly one woman who lost her entire garden to the wildfires. The community also expressed plans to involve students in replanting efforts near the school. Bragg estimated the value of the donated trees to be close to $9,000. Mayor Curtis Delaney of Small Point-Broad Cove-Blackhead-Adam’s Cove expressed gratitude for the couple’s generosity, emphasizing the positive impact it had on the community’s morale.
Looking ahead, Bragg mentioned plans to send thousands of seeds to the community for planting more trees in the upcoming summer. Their sole focus remains on restoring the greenery and beauty of the region without seeking any recognition for their altruistic efforts. The community’s spirit and love for their environment deeply touched Bragg and Warren, making the entire experience unforgettable.
