Thieves in the United Kingdom have taken their game to a new level. British authorities are currently working to recover 70,000 pints of stolen Guinness. The theft, which occurred at a depot near Liverpool in northwest England, involved two trailer truckloads of the famous creamy dark beer valued at approximately 115,000 pounds ($216,000 Cdn), according to the Cheshire Constabulary.
Detective Sergeant Gary McClatchy emphasized the importance of ensuring that the stolen items are fully retrieved, stating, “It is often said that ‘Guinness is good for you,’ but this only holds true when it has been rightfully purchased.” This incident follows a recent beer theft in the United States that garnered public attention due to the brewer’s witty social media posts regarding the loss of about 34,000 cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon.
The stolen Guinness, intended for pubs, was taken by two drivers who arrived at an industrial park in Runcorn on Monday night and subsequently absconded with the trailers containing roughly 800 barrels of stout. The trailers themselves were estimated to be worth 50,000 pounds ($93,000).
In a separate incident in Southern California, thieves stole Pabst Blue Ribbon beer worth $70,000 US ($97,000 Cdn) from a warehouse. The company offered a $20,000 US reward for any information that could lead to the recovery of the stolen beer. The company also addressed the thief on social media, expressing their disappointment and urging them to have acquired the beer through legitimate means.
