John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Tory stated that he looks forward to collaborating with TIFF’s board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider TIFF community to influence its future direction.
Tory officially commences his term on October 1, as confirmed in a recent press release. This year’s TIFF is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 20. He succeeds Jeffrey Remedios, who held the position of chair since 2021. In his farewell statement, Remedios expressed his enduring pride in contributing to the film festival’s evolution.
Additionally, TIFF announced the appointment of three new members to its board of directors: Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. Concurrently, Asha Daniere, who served on the board for nine years, will be stepping down. TIFF conveyed its gratitude to Daniere for her dedicated service and valuable contributions to the organization.
