The MPs, Brian Leishman, Chris Hinchliff, Neil Duncan-Jordan, and Rachael Maskell, were suspended last July due to repeated violations of party discipline. Their suspension was lifted after a review of their recent behavior. These MPs were among a group of Labour backbenchers who opposed government plans to cut disability benefits in July, a move that was later abandoned following a significant backlash.
In a statement, Rachael Maskell expressed gratitude for the restoration of the whip and reaffirmed her commitment to Labour values and representing her constituents in York. She emphasized the importance of addressing poverty and improving public services and the economy.
Brian Leishman, the MP for Alloa and Grangemouth, highlighted the significance of having the whip reinstated, stating his dedication to the Labour Party’s mission of promoting social equality and empowerment of the working class.
Neil Duncan-Jordan, representing Poole, expressed satisfaction with the reinstatement of the whip, emphasizing his long-standing involvement in the Labour and trade union movements and his commitment to advocating for Labour principles.
Chris Hinchliff welcomed his reinstatement and mentioned productive discussions with the new chief whip. He reiterated his focus on serving the communities of North East Hertfordshire and contributing to Labour’s goal of prioritizing people and the environment over financial gains.
