Pregnant Woman Misdiagnosed with Brain Tumor

Must Read

A pregnant woman accuses her doctor of dismissing her concerns about cancer, attributing her severe headaches to birth control pills before her eventual diagnosis of a brain tumor. Tamara Bright had been suffering from intense headaches and balance problems since 2015, but her doctor linked these issues to her contraceptive use, vitamin B12 deficiency, and lack of hydration.

When Tamara started experiencing blurred vision in her right eye and hearing loss in her right ear, she sought assistance from an optician and audiologist. The audiologist referred her for an MRI in June 2023, revealing a benign brain tumor that doctors believe had been developing for over ten years, affecting her facial expressions.

The 4cm tumor had been causing pressure behind Tamara’s eyes, leading to vision problems, and compressing her brain stem. She underwent surgeries in August 2023 and March 2024 to remove the tumor, followed by radiosurgery in June 2024.

Before the procedures, she was cautioned about the possibility of developing Bell’s palsy temporarily due to the tumor’s location, and she has since experienced partial facial paralysis on the right side. Bell’s palsy is a condition that results in sudden weakness or paralysis on one side of the face due to facial nerve impairment.

On the road to recovery, Tamara advises individuals with unusual symptoms to persist in seeking answers from medical professionals. She expressed frustration at the dismissive attitude of her doctors over the years despite her persistent complaints about her health.

Having lost her mother to a brain tumor in the past, Tamara’s own diagnosis was particularly distressing. She stressed the importance of advocating for oneself when experiencing health concerns. Tamara, expecting a baby with her fiancé Jordan Pell, plans to explore treatment options for Bell’s palsy after giving birth.

Dealing with the aftermath of her surgeries and Bell’s palsy, Tamara highlighted the impact on her confidence and personal life. She emphasized the difficulty of coping with changes in her appearance and the challenges of interacting with others, especially children who may not understand her condition.

Encouraging individuals facing similar challenges to trust their instincts and push for proper medical attention, Tamara emphasized the importance of self-advocacy in healthcare.
